Introduction to IT Branch

'Data Automation' Branch was established in 1976, to meet the computerization needs of the PAF. Since 2003, the computer literacy was started at root level and the need of software applications on a broad platform was felt necessary by the Commanders.

The computerization activities in PAF can be divided into four major eras. In First Era (from 1975 to 1983), the Management Information System were developed / maintained through batch processing. It included Hardware Systems like IBM/3740 Data Entry Machines, IBM Sys/370 Mainframe. In Second Era (from 1983 to 1998), online processing were started. A family of IBM hardware systems like Sys/36, AS/400, Sys/4361, Sys/3090 and ES/9000 were acquired to perform the automated tasks. In Third Era (from 1999 to 2003) Client/Server computing was introduced and few Client/Server architecture based application systems were developed using RDBMS technologies. In Fourth Era (from 2003 till today), PAF Intranet was developed to act as a highway for the information dissemination up to the root level with appropriate security. Development of Web Based Information Systems was started for the automation of PAF processes towards paperless environment / trend
